Hampton Designers Showhouse on Old Sag Harbor Rd
Participating in the 2025 Hampton Designer Showhouse is a meaningful milestone for our studio. We’re grateful to all of the partners and contributors who helped bring Rufus Dreaming to life—and to the Hampton Designer Showhouse Foundation for supporting designers and the communities they serve. Rufus Dreaming
Ahmad AbouZanat Studio presented “Rufus Dreaming”, a poetic Great Room designed as a love letter to a senior dog named Rufus and his devoted human, Aamito. Blending emotional storytelling with Understated Luxury, the space paid homage to their quiet bond—and to the gentle rhythms of aging, memory, and companionship.
The design took inspiration from Rufus’s favorite place, Agawam Park in Southampton, NY, where he spent time as he grew older. Wanting to bring the peaceful energy of the park indoors, Aamito commissioned a space where structured design meets natural calm. The result was an atmosphere that felt both grounded and dreamlike, softened by an earthy palette, tailored forms, and poetic restraint.
A portrait of Aamito and Rufus by Richard Phibbs—photographed in Aamito’s grandparents’ home—hung above the fireplace, a gesture that bridged personal history with new storytelling, providing a symbolic anchor to the room and evoking a rich sense of memory and belonging.

At the heart of the room lies Agawam Edge, a custom rug designed in collaboration with Ferreira de Sá.
“Just like Agawam Park, where structured paths meet open green space, this rug brings together geometry and natural tones in quiet balance.
The triangular border mirrors the rhythm of a landscaped layout, while the palette—soft greens with a hint of blush—reflects the surrounding foliage and sky at dusk. A subtle composition, designed to anchor the room with clarity and calm.”
